Abstract

Prehospital endotracheal intubation (ETI) is a commonly performed but complex procedure. Cognitive psychology is a science describing how humans organize andprocess thoughts, including those used in complex operations. We use Rasmussen's Skills-Rules-Knowledge (SRK) framework to highlight the cognitive complexities of prehospital ETI. These findings have important implications for prehospital education andcare.
