Intercultural Perspectives on Cyberspace: An Updated Examination

Pages 713-724 | Received 07 Sep 2013, Accepted 16 Sep 2013, Published online: 25 Sep 2014

Abstract

Cyberspace is the Global Village, a sphere for interaction between users from multiple cultural backgrounds. It can unite people or divide them for motives rooted in ideology, politics, historical background, race, or religion. Readers will find it useful to read an article on cyberspace from an intercultural perspective because, most likely, they will be able to relate their experience and knowledge of cyberspace to the analytical and theoretical framework presented in this article. An important conclusion is that cyberspace facilitates the creation of a second order of culture, which differs from the synchronous exchange of symbols and sounds between people in three-dimensional space.
