Heavy oil / Asphaltene

Fuel gas production from asphaltene and recycled polyethylene

, , , &

Abstract

Like other heavy oils, asphaltene is comprised of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, sulfur and a small amount of vanadium and nickel. Polyethylene is the most common plastic that consists of high molecular weight hydrocarbons. Since this compound is a very good electrical insulator, it is widely used in the electricity industry. Gasification of asphaltene and polyethylene has not been extensively studied up until now. Few studies have more on the gas composition obtained from a specific fuel. This study tries to compare gas composition obtained from gasification of different kinds of asphaltene and polyethylene. Effect of reaction temperature on H2/CO and lower heating value of fuel gas was studied. Since the LHV of the produced syngas from fossil fuels is more than biomass and plastic wastes, it has more applications.
