Abstract
The distribution of intratracheally administered fly ash into extrapulmonary organs of rats at various periods has been studied by giving 89Sr‐enriched fly ash of respirable particles size. The organs studied were liver, brain, heart, spleen, kidney, stomach, small intestine and plasma. The 89Sr‐radioactivity appeared in all these tissues and was maximum at 12 hrs period. The translocation 89 of 89Sr‐radioactivity from lung occured in two phases one a rapid one and the other a slow one. Similar pattern of decline in 89Sr‐radioactivity was obtained in extrapulmonary organs and plasma. A gradual but steady increase of 89Sr‐enriched fly ash radioactivity was found in the trichloro acetic acid (TCA) precipitable fraction.
