The column efficiency for the determination of paraquat residues in soil

Pages 169-175 | Published online: 15 Dec 2008

Abstract

Three cation exchange columns have been studied i.e., 1.0 x 50.0 cm. with cation exchange resin 5.0 grams, two of 0.6 x 45.0 cm. with difference cation exchange resin size, 5.0 and 2.0 grams for the determination of Paraquat residues in soil. The column efficiency of 0.6 x 45.0 cm. with cation exchange resin 5.0 grams is the best and the percent recovery was 99. The column efficiency decrease as 1.0 x 50.0 cm. with 5.0 grams of cation exchanger and 0.6 x 45.0 cm. with 2.0 grams of cation exchanger. The 0.6 x 45.0 cm with 5.0 grams of cation exchanger have teen used for the determination of Paraquat residues in six soil samples from six difference rubber plantations. The range of Paraquat residues found were between 2.6–17.0 part per million (ppm) and the relative standard deviation (RSD) less than four percent.
