Abstract
In liquid chromatography (LC), the retention characteristics of sample components within a given column are extremely dependent on the chemical composition of the mobile phase. An evaluation of solvents was performed and their properties are summarized. Acetonitrile is used as a representative high performance liquid chromatographic solvent due to its common use. Purities of sixteen samples of acetonitrile obtained from different manufacturers are discussed in terms of their physical, spectroscopic and chromatographic properties.
