Abstract
Kinetics of the four‐compartments aerated submerged fixed film reactor for the removal of a mixture of nontoxic (sucrose) and toxic (phenol) substrates at different hydraulic and organic loadings were investigated. The mixture was made of 1:3, 2:2, 3:1 phenol to sucrose ratios. High removal efficiencies were achieved for both nontoxic and toxic organics. Monod model could be applied in the first compartment of the reactor, while in the second through fourth compartments, the kinetics could be described by a variable order reaction for both nontoxic and toxic organics.
