Abstract

Low temperature carbonization (LTC) wastewater contains appreciable concentration of some heavy metals like Fe, Zn, Cu, Mn, Na and K. Concentration of these metal ions increases with the increase in oil fraction of the wastewater (WAL). Fate of these metal ions in the treatment of WAL by a completely mixed activated sludge process has been studied and the partition of these metel ions between sludge and aquous phase has been evaluated. Removal of metal ions and their partition depend on sludge retention time (SRT) at which the system operates.
