Abstract
The removal of paraquat onto granular chitosan has been investigated in vitro with a view to using chitosan in the primary treatment of acute paraquat poisoning. The amount of paraquat adsorbed and its adsorption rate onto chitosan were greater in normal saline solution than in either artificial gastric juice or purified water. The surface area of the chitosan was a dominant factor in paraquat adsorption in all solutions.
