Abstract

The formation of molecularly dispersed sulfur begins as soon as the reac‐tants were mixed. At the time (induction period, tB ) when concentration of dissolved sulfur reaches a constant value, i. e, a limiting supersaturation, an increase at the optical density values was observed. tB values were used in order to examine the influence of the concentrations of cetyhl trimethyl ammonium bromide (CTAB) and gelatin (GL) on the formation of sulfur sols.

It was observed that the rate of the formation of sulfur sol was decreased by the presence of increasing concentrations of gelatin.

It was found that at low concentrations of CTAB, the induction period was prolonged but above the critical micelle concentration.condensation was drastically retarded. The phenomena observed in the presence of CTAB were interpreted on the basis of adsorption and micelle formation.
