Abstract

Desulfurization of coal using microbial catalyst looks promising biotechnological approach. Chaemoautrophic bacteria, Thiobacillus ferrooxidance, isolated from iron mine sludges have been used for sulfur removal from coal. The rate of desulfurization of coal is strongly dependent on the physio‐chemical parameters. pH, media components, iron contents are greatly influencing the sulfur removal rate in coal.
