Abstract

A time variable tidal flow model was developed to be used interactively with a two‐dimensional, finite segment, water quality model. The continuity equation and the equation of motion were used as coupled model equations and formulated in a finite segment format. Numerical solutions were obtained using a two ‐ step explicit method where velocities, tidal heights, and segment volume were adjusted at half‐time intervals. The model calibration/verification was based on recorded tidal elevation data. The model predictions are in close agreement with the measured data.
