Identification of streptomyces isolated from environmental soil samples using rapid enzyme data

Pages 1133-1143 | Received 13 Oct 1994, Accepted 29 Nov 1994, Published online: 15 Dec 2008

Summary

In this study, 128 test strains included 72 representatives of major membered Slreptomyces clusters circumscribed by Williams et al. (1983) and 56 representative Streptomyces group A, B and C strains were circumscirbed using fluorogenic enzyme data. The representatives of Streptomyces groups A, B and C formed discrete homogeneous clusters that were sharply separated from the marker strains representing the 72 major Streptomyces clusters. There is, however, little evidence that the marker strains grouping into the numerically circumscribed clusters reported by Williams et al. (1983). This study show that rapid enzyme tests could used to identity unknown strains isolated from any environment.
