Field evaluation of activated sludge system

Abstract

The performance of an activated sludge treatment plant in removing selected pollutants was made. Samples from all unit processes were taken and a series of tests were conducted on each.

The results revealed that the plant showed a reduced efficiency in removing organic loads, nutrients, and suspended solids. The study discusses the variety of reasons stood behind such poor efficiency and proposes some measures to upgrade and improve the performance of the plant.
