Abstract

Batch sorption experiments were conducted to investigate the removal of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] from aqueous solutions and tannery wastewater samples by fly ash. The results showed that the optimum removal was accomplished at pH 2 with a contact time between fly ash and Cr(VI) solution of 2 hours. The isotherm data followed the Freundlich equation and resulted in comparable sorbed phase concentrations for both the aqueous and the tannery wastewater samples spiked with Cr(VT).
