Abstract
This paper describes the performance evaluation studies of Poly Aluminium Chloride (PAC) and alum in the removal of fluorides and some heavy metals (Fe, Mn, Cd, Cr and Pb) from drinking water. It was observed that fluoride removal was better with alum than with PAC. Heavy metal removal efficiency of these two coagulants show a similar trend over different range of alkalinity of the test water. The removal of heavy metals is enhanced with the increase in alkalinity.
