After a decade of leadership, Drs. Timothy Keener and George Hidy have stepped aside as the Technical Editor-in-Chief and Co-Editor, respectively, of the Journal of the Air & Waste Management Association (JA&WMA). As the incoming Technical Editor-in-Chief, I thank them for their contributions toward enhancing the scientific quality of the journal. I intend to build on the foundation laid out by Drs. Keener and Hidy and further improve the stature and recognition of the journal by working closely with the associate editors, the editorial review board, the publications committee, and the national and international scientific community.

JA&WMA is the oldest continuously published peer-review journal in the environmental sciences field, publishing policy-relevant applied research to safeguard public health and the environment. I propose to enhance A&WMA's mission by focusing on papers that provide the scientific and technological basis for more effectively managing air pollution and waste issues confronting us. The journal will actively seek papers that cut across different disciplines and are particularly useful to environmental policy-makers, while continuing to publish traditional research papers in air pollution and waste management. The journal will also publish review papers on contemporary topics of interest to the environmental community.

Reflecting the international nature of the Association, JA&WMA will pay particular attention to increase the number of papers from scientists from different countries. Also, timely publication of the papers submitted is a priority for the journal. In addition, we will consider publishing special or dedicated issues for papers from national and international conferences to help broaden the scope and diversity for the journal. I am looking forward to working with the scientific community here and every continent to increase the journal's impact factor.
