Abstract

Spatial structures of Co, Pb, and Zn contents in tills in an area of 75X75 km in southeastern Sweden are studied using spatial geostatistics. Variogram surfaces, omni- and directional variograms are calculated and fitted by theoretical models. The variograms revealed zonal anisotropy for Co and Pb, and isotropy for Zn. The quantitatively described spatial structures are discussed with reference to the bedrock map and symbol maps of the trace metal contents at 746 sampling locations. Bedrock distribution, together with glacial transport, plays a controlling role in the formation of the spatial structures, whereas the structures of Pb and Zn are influenced by the presence of sulphide mineralization.
