Abstract
The author has studied the content of microfossils in a small quantity of shale from the Visingsö formation. One species of the family Leiosphaeraceae, Protoleiosphaeridium wimani n. sp., is described. 13 species of sporomorphae, which are regarded as trilete spores and indicators of a terrestrial or semiterrestrial higher vegetation, have been recognized from the Visingsö formation as well as from the corresponding strata m the NW part of the Russian platform. Pellicles of Laminarites have also been encountered. The author correlates the Visingsö formation with the Gdovian and Laminarites beds in the Vendian series (complex) of the Sinian system, according to the terminology of Sokolov. These strata are further correlated with the Eocambrian Moelv sparagmite and Ekre shales in Norway.
