Abstract

Laboratory experiments concerned with the contamination during storing of crushed and uncrushed samples for C14-dating as well as decontamination experiments with deliberately contaminated shell samples suggest that the contamination is dependent on the grain size and storing conditions. X-ray analysis is recommended for revealing change of crystal form by weathering, etc. Contamination may be reduced by sample storage in sealed glass tubes. The dispersion liquid used at size fractionation should be free of CO2.
