The Gastrointestinal Effects of Cefaclor

Pages 35-46 | Published online: 27 Oct 2016

Summary

The result of this meta-analysis showed that the incidence of gastrointestinal side-effects was significantly lower with cefaclor than with comparator antibiotics used for the treatment of respiratory tract infections such as amoxycillin, co-amoxiclav, cefixime and cefuroxime axetil. Co-amoxiclav was three times more likely to cause diarrhoea than cefaclor but the risk of diarrhoea was not significantly different between cefaclor, cefprozil, amoxycillin or cefuroxime axetil.
