Summary
The A. studied the chromosome sets of polyploid hybrids of the planarian Dugesia lugubris. Both oocytes and somatic cells show a conspicuous set variability, so that in the same individual there is a real mosaic of cells with different chromosome numbers. This event is following a chromosome elimination, that appears general and constant, but irregular about the number and quality of eliminated elements. The A. then ascertained the cylological mechanisms by means of which elimination takes place.
