Summary
Induction of the spinal chord in the Ascidians has been studied by means of grafts. Anterior vegetative blastomere isolated from the 16, 32 and 64-cell stages were transplanted under an animal quartet of the 8-cell stage. It was found (a) that the spinal chord is inducted by a single cell of the 64-cell stage, and (b) that the induction can be produced either by chordal or by entodermal cells.
