Rediscovery of the species echiniscus macronyx richters, 1907 on South Georgia, South Atlantic, its new systematic position and redescription within the genus testechiniscus

Abstract

Recent investigations at South Georgia have revealed a small number of specimens of a Heterotardigrada formally described as Echiniscus macronyx Richters, 1907. Taxonomic confusion resulted from the inadequately described original specimen. Using the new material the species is redescribed and its taxonomic status within the genus Testechiniscus is discussed.
