Summary
Leaves and stems of plants of Vicia Faba L., grown in the light or in the dark, in different conditions of humidity and temperature, have been treated with various concentrations of 2,4-D in lanolin.
Numerous reactions have been obtained; among them we remember: 1) curving of entire stems, owed to differential development of cells; 2) formation of tumours in treated decapitated stems, chiefly connected with stimolation of pericyclic cells, which also contribute to form lateral roots; 3) hypertrophical phenomena interesting specially the cortical cells of the stem; 4) curling of treated leaves.
Various factors act upon the velocity and intensity of reactions: ambiental conditions, age of the plant, concentrations of 2,4-D in lanolin.
