Abstract
The oxidative deamination of Cystamine (Cys) and Se-cystamine (Secys) catalyzed by Euphorbia characias diamine oxidase (ELAO) has been studied for the possible metabolic reactions in comparison with diamine oxidase from different sources. The results indicate that Cys and Secys are good substrates for ELAO. The oxidative deamination of Cys and Secys gives as first products the cystaldimine and Se-cystaldimine, respectively.
The final products of Cys and Secys degradation are ammonia, elemental sulfur or selenium, and two-carbon compounds (C2).
