Life on Earth depends, ever since its inception, on a set of conditions that must be preserved. Natural biogeochemical cycles (such as the ones for carbon, for nitrogen, etc.) can stand partial or temporary changes but cannot be disrupted without dire consequences.
Evolution through mutation and selection may witness the appearance or disappearance of even major classes of living beings—including evolutionary links leading to man—but natural balance (such as that between hetero—and anto-trophs) must be preserved.
By gradually abolishing a series of limiting factors affecting its growth (famine, infections etc.). Man has managed to enter a series of logistic curves that led to the current and still increasing overpopulation problem. The most relevant factor in recent times is the drastic drop in prrinatal deaths without a parallel worlswide drop in fertility.
Control of fertility while respecting human dignity means “responsible parenthood”, but the latter can only be achieved through education, and the international community must take responsibility in this direction.
Only learned, informed and educated people are able to choose responsibly the size of thir family and contribute to the balance between Man and environment for the preservation of Nature.
