In memoriam: Dr Andrés Peralta Corneille

It is with much sorrow that the Editorial Board of Global Bioethics announces the loss of our esteemed and loyal colleague, Dr and Professor Andrés Emilio Peralta Corneille.

Dr Andrés Peralta Corneille was a successful radiotherapist, one of the founding members of the Dominican Society of Radiology and the Inter American College of Radiology (Colegio Interamericano de Radiología or CIR); he was also the Medical Director of the Oncologic Institute of Cibao in Santiago de Chile.

Andrés Peralta Corneille's tireless efforts to promote bioethics began in the 1980s and to this aim he collaborated with UNESCO for several decades, travelling extensively in Latin America to actively participate in international forums. He was also a long-standing member of the board of Global Bioethics, where his unrelenting support and enthusiasm will be sadly missed.

For many years, Andrés Peralta Corneille was a member of the former Committee of Ethics and Statutes which, due to his efforts, became the present Committee of Bioethics of the Inter American College of Radiology, whereby he left his legacy in their Code of Ethics and the Code of Good Governance, which he wrote in Medellin together with Dr Restrepo and the CIR's Board of Directors.

On a personal level, however, Andrés Peralta Corneille will be remembered for his kind and affectionate nature, his conscientiousness and moral integrity.
