Notes

1 Capitalism’s tendency to undermine its economic preconditions of existence and its tendency to undermine its environmental preconditions of existence are what Marx (Citation1990) referred to as the first and second contradictions of capitalism, respectively. These contradictions are likely inherent to capitalism, making it necessarily unsustainable and exploitative (Rose and Cachelin Citation2018).
