ABSTRACT

A method of diagnosis of corroded reinforced concrete elements is proposed. In a first step, the corrosion state of the reinforcement is estimated from a simple visual observation of concrete cover cracking due to corrosion, via an empirical model connecting the degree of corrosion to the crack width. The distribution of this corrosion is then introduced in a mechanical model of corroded reinforced concrete behavior, which takes into account the effects of corrosion. This methodology of diagnosis thus allows to predict the mechanical behavior of a damaged reinforced concrete element.
