The effects of professional competency and workplace social networking on hotel employees’ career success

ABSTRACT

Changing working conditions have made careers unpredictable and a successful end of career hard to achieve, so employees need to manage their careers successfully. This study investigates the effects of professional competency and workplace social networking behaviour on career success. Using a survey technique, 711 responses were obtained from hotel employees in Turkey. The findings indicate that professional competency and workplace social networking have a positive effect on career success. The most remarkable detail in the results of the study, is that workplace social networking, especially relationships with the supervisor, is a priority in career development.
