SUMMARY

The effect of methanol in concentration 1–4% on the biosynthesis of citric acid Asp. niger IM-13 in a nutrient medium with maize starch hydrolysate was tested. It was found that methanol added in a final concentration of 3% in the medium with ammonium nitrate or natrium nitrate had shown maximal effect. It was observed different stimulative effect of methyl alcohol depending up concentration of the nitrogen source. In the presence of methanol (final concentration 3%) and ammonium nitrate (as nitrogen equivalent 0,524 g/1) citric acid production increased up to 10,85 g/cm3 and the yield based to utilized sugar was 73%. In the liquid culture with methanol filamentous form and little fine pellets were observed. A suppression of the growth and increased utilization of sugars were found out.
