SUMMARY

A brief review of the diseases with the immune complexes syndrome and the methods for their detection is presented. An argumentation for the biotechnological production of the first subcomponent of the complement (C1q) is given. The molecular structure, biological functions and applications of this protein as a diagnostic reagent are described. The recent advances of the Biochemistry department at Sofia University in the development of a technology for C1q production are anunced. The perspectives for C1q purification by monoclonal anti-C1q antibodies are disscussed as well.
