ABSTRACT

The aim of our study was to establish the influence of two dairy products-“Bulgaricum” and “Biostim”, containing pectin and viable Lactobacillus cells on some biochemical parameters in men. Two groups of 16 men received the two powder-like products, which was given for breakfast and as an afternoon snack for 15 days. The total cholesterol, cholesterol in high-density lipoprotein, triglycerides, blood sugar and total protein were determined in blood serum at the beginning of the study and on the 15 day. Although the two products did not demonstrate a marked hypolipidemic effect, there was a certain tendency towards increasing the levels of cholesterol in high-density lipoproteins and decreasing cholesterol in low-density lipoproteins (especially “Bulgaricum”). The two products have a positive influence on blood sugar levels.
