An Optimal Control Solution for Yeast's Batch Cultivation

Pages 49-52 | Published online: 15 Apr 2014

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this paper is to find a mathematical solution to the problems of the brewing yeast Saccharomyces carsbergensis batch cultivation. The problem is to develop a working mathematical model for optimal control synthesis of optimum time profile. The working model optimum control is developed on the basis of the kinetic model. The model includes three differential equation for biomass formation as limiting substrate and dissolved oxygen are consumed. A comparison between model and experimental data demonstrates the models accuracy. Optimum control synthesis is carried out according to the Kiffer-Johnson method. The optimum profile of dissolved oxygen is numerically obtained and experimentally verified.
