ABSTRACT

Callus, cell and root culture systems of Salvia amplexicaulis were established to study its secondary metabolites. The roots of Salvia amplexicaulis cultured in Schenk-Hildebrand (SH) medium supplemented with lmg l−1 Indol butyric acid have shown hairy root characteristics. Root cultures produced two triterpenes oleanolic and ursolic acids and a steroid β-sitosterol in SH medium supplemented with lmg l−1 IBA.
