Wheat Genetic Resources Evaluation by Electrophoretic Separation of Gliadins

ABSTRACT

A review on Polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis of gliadins as a tool for evaluation of wheat germplasm (Tr. aestivum L. and Tr. durum Desf.) is presented. The results for genotypes identification with respect to wheat cultivars heterogeneity are discussed. The hidden effect of heterogeneity at molecular level is illustrated and its importance for protection of genetic identity under genebank conditions maintenance. Practical utilisation of gliadins as genetic markers for rapid evaluation and incorporation of efficient traits in new Bulgarian wheat cultivars is discussed.
