ABSTRACT

An individual electrophorertical analysis of total protein extracts on polyacrylamide gels was made and the followed specific staining procedure for glyoxalase I showed distinct patterns within the species of Drosophila genus. The obtained electrophorertical picture showed single patterns in each species and the determined molecular weights ranged approximately from 56000 Da (Drosophila melanogaster) to 85000 Da (Drosophila pinicola). A developmental profile of the glyoxalase I activity was also made by tracing spectrophotometrically the specific enzyme activity in different stages of Drosophila melanogaster development.
