Adapting State Metacognitive Inventory in Turkish Language and Culture

ABSTRACT

In this study, adaptation procedures of State Metacognitive Inventory in Turkish language and culture are reported. In the process, Test Adaptation Guidelines developed by International Test Commission (ITC) and recommendations for test adaptations made by researchers in the field were followed. As part of the adaptation process a small scale tryout study was performed with 3 groups of totally 70 prospective biology and science teachers. The adapted version of the inventory was given each student after they completed a project based performance task. The results indicated that the inventory reliable (alpha is around 0.70). After that 5 student teachers from each group (totally 15) were interviewed about the accuracy of Turkish version of the inventory. The results indicated that the State Metacognitive Inventory was successfully adapted to Turkish language and culture.
