ABSTRACT

The adaptive ponds of Waste Water Treatment Plant of Luck-Oil, petrochemical treating factory have been constructed artificially forty years ago. Their ecological role was to protect of the water of Black sea from accidental industrial pollution. Nevertheless, as a result as unprofessional management of waste treatment policy of the Neftochim Luck-Oil, the sediments of the adaptive ponds have been heavily contaminated by hazardous pollutants—polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and mineral oils (C10-C40).

A specially designed pre-bioremediation program has been applied for the period from two years in the frame of European Inco-Copernicus Project. A broad specter hydrobiological, chemical, microbiological and enzymological analysis and indicators have been applied.

The pre-bioremediation strategy is the appropriate base for building up of biological design of complex and real bioremediation technology. The technology consists of two steps: First. A decrease of concentration of PAHs and mineral oils to the critical concentrations for the possible microbial degradation. Second. A stimulation of microbial detoxication in situ and ex site. The proposed by the team bioremediation scheme has different options and customers can choose the right scenario in dependence of financial, technical and human resources, involved in the detoxication technology.
