Types of Flocks of Mouflon (Ovis Musimon Pall) During the Autumn-Winter Period

Pages 170-172 | Published online: 15 Apr 2014

ABSTRACT

The mouflon (Ovis musimon Pall.) is a gregarios species, which is changing the numbers and structure of the flocks according to the season. This depends on abiotic and biotic factors. The way of breeding the flocks (free or kept in breeding fences) could also affect them because of predators. The goal of this study was to examine this interaction. The study was conducted in two regions with free living mouflons SGE „Kormisosh” in Lyki and Hunting & fishing assosiation in Drianovo, and for animals in breeding fences—in SGE „Dikchan”. In total for the two regions with free living mouflons 44 flocks were observed in the autumn-winter period of 2008/9: 30 mixed flocks, 5 flocks of females with lambs, 5 only female and 4 only male flocks. Observations of 104 flocks in breeding fences in the autumn-winter period of 2007/8 and 2008/9 show: 60 mixed, 21 females with lambs, 3 only females and 20 only males flocks.
