Abstract

For the aural historian the link between music and history goes well beyond the history of music. Music has always played an important cultural role in expressing and thus documenting political, economic and social change. In Latin America this function has been particularly distinct and a musical anthology from the region can provide a wealth of material for both research and teaching.
