Practising as a clinical psychologist in the UK

Abstract

Clinical psychologists who wish to work in the U.K. must be eligible to be a “Chartered Clinical Psychologist” (C.Psychol). In order to become chartered, Australian psychologists will need to obtain a “Statement of Equivalence“ from the British Psychological Society (BPS). The process involved in obtaining equivalence is described. Most Australian psychologists are likely to be required to undertake some combination of additional course work, essays or placements, especially in the areas of child psychology, learning disabilities, older adults and professional issues. Strategies to minimise additional placements and study are suggested to intending applicants.
