Editorial: Ecological consequences of biodiversity loss

Pages 77-78 | Published online: 02 Jun 2009

SUMMARY

The principal value of species may lie in their contributions to the resilience of the ecosystems of which they are components. Establishing the value of ecosystem resilience, and so the value of ecosystem components, may therefore be amongst the highest priorities for ecological research. Unfortunately, this importance is not recognised by those who today control the funding of ecological research.
