SUMMARY
This paper deals with the problems of economic development and environment of India. It presents an analytical framework for sustainable development and applies it to the Indian economy, especially to the management of natural resources and the environment. The paper also provides specific policy guidelines. It particularly argues in favour of privatisation and operation of competitive markets for sustainable development.
