Competence or Trust: the academic offering

Pages 7-15 | Published online: 07 Jul 2006

Abstract

One of higher education's characteristics is assisting in the development of its student's self‐trust. This might best be developed through empathetic trusting relations. This paper questions the nature of higher education's distinctiveness at a time of commercial change, which is likely to neglect empathetic trust in favour of a form of competence in trust.
