Abstract
Background: Chronic pain of muscular or subcutaneous origin has been reported in the rheumatologic literature under different names for a long time and many treatment methods have been advocated.
Findings: A 41-year old male with chronic pain in the left chest area for 10 years and in the left buttock, thigh and popliteal areas for 4 years was diagnosed as, (1) thoracic radiculopathy and (2) fibrositis. Clinical findings were many tender points, widespread skinfold tenderness and a weak, atrophied left gluteus maximus.
The patient was treated with skinrolling massage to all areas of skinfold tenderness for one month and recovered completely from his pain.
Conclusions: Skinrolling massage can be an effective treatment for chronic pain patients with severe skinfold tenderness.
