Pages 68-75 | Published online: 10 Dec 2010

Abstract

The paper details the development over 10 years of the Statement of Relevance (SOR) as a process for facilitating reflective learning. It explains the rationale behind the development of SORs and discusses issues concerned with their use as a vehicle for assessment. The advantages of SORs in encouraging students to take ownership of their learning, developing the skills of reflection and raising the value of learning events are outlined. Potential pitfalls in adopting the process are also considered.
