The Teacher and Town Planner as Facilitator

Pages 372-380 | Published online: 10 Dec 2010

Abstract

The current UK Government is committed to reviving active citizenship and reducing the democratic deficit. The modernizing local government agenda seeks to create more open and transparent processes and to encourage a listening Council responsive to communities' concerns. This paper examines the role of the facilitator in teaching and town planning. It explores the literature on student-centred learning to find out what qualities and skills are required and whether there are any lessons that can be drawn for students of environmental planning and teaching in general.
