GROUP TEACHING BY PROGRAMMED INSTRUCTION

Pages 37-46 | Published online: 09 Jul 2006

Abstract

The‐ paper reports a series of experiments in which programmed instruction is used in a group situation. The “ Group Teaching Machine “ used, designed by Mr. Max Sime, is described, and a system of pacing is outlined. Experiments at primary school, secondary school and university levels are reported. No significant difference was found between the scores of groups using the “ Group Teaching Machine “ and those of groups using self‐paced booklets. Various arguments are advanced in support of the group teaching machine, in particular considerations of time‐saving.
